Emerging from a space located somwhere between the heart, mind and hands of M.Heisler come the Slobots.
Charismatic, Custom designed reflections of the future created using materials carefully selected from
the present.
M. Heisler spent a lot of time in his early years painting just for the sake of putting color on the
canvas. He is inspired by the work of colorful artists such as Franz Marc, Andy Warhol, and Jasper
Johns. His unmistakable style of painting and sculpture derives itself from 20th century design, modern
and pop art, and 60s sci-fi.
The Slobot series came as the result of M's wife's request for a drawing of a robot. She's a big fan
of the space and futuristic themes, and the first drawing is fairly simple. It was and done with
pastels, and shows a profile view of a robot. That started an obsession with robots, which quickly
became The Slobots. Pretty soon, all the paintings and drawings were Slobots.
The Slobot sculptures have been through a few incarnations in their evolution thus far. The very first
sculpture was made out of found objects and paper machè, and then painted with acrylics. The current
Slobots are far more complex, involving old toys, new toys, found objects, and traditional art materials.
As far as the sculptures go, not much is thrown away without first being evaluated for its ability to
become a “bot part”.
M.Heisler currently lives in New York City with his wife and 2 dogs.
